The Power of Narratives

storytelling-nightEssay writing doesn’t always have to follow a formula. Essay writing doesn’t always have to pose an argument, analyze some ancient text, or even have a goal. Sometimes an essay can be about humanity’s most powerful virtue; storytelling.

A virtue handed down from generation to generation, storytelling has never ceased be the basis of society.

From Native American folklore to the simplest of conversations with your grandparents, storytelling assumes an important role in the social relations between humans.

Not  only is culture passed down from generation to generation through storytelling, but the morals and values of one one generation to the next.

Story telling doesn’t always have to be through family either.

Fiction, Sci-Fi, biographies, histories, these are examples of narratives that humans have studied and more importantly enjoyed for centuries.

My favorite book of all time happens to be a Sci-Fi; H.G. Wells’ War of the Worlds

Narratives, storytelling, and reading shouldn’t be taken for granted in a time where there are so many distractions in life; because a simple read or a simple conversation can teach you something new about yourself.
